Cumbria - February 4th - 6th 2011

Post by Paul French »

Dear All

I have booked accommodation at Keswick for a trip to Cumbria between 4th - 6th February 2011.

The plan subject to water is to paddle between GII - GIV - likely rivers being the Lune, Greta and Kent

Places are limited - cost £35.00 per person which will include breakfast but not evening meal(s). Payment by 21st December to secure a place.

Yours

Dear All

I am approaching the date I need to make a decison regarding accommodation for this trip. So far we are looking at Tim, Jim, Tony, and Myself as confirmed, with Andy and Malcolm interested but unconfirmed.

Please let me know if you are interested in this trip.

My issue is that there is a polo tournament that JJ is playing in that weekend, otherwise I would be with you like a shot. The experience of the last 2 events has shown that this team needs a certain amount of help on transport , logistics and organisation!

Wow! What a great weekend.

We paddled the Leven on Friday which was at a fairly normal level then the Greta on Saturday morning which was only just in the banks and fast and furious.
Then we took advice from a local and went upstream to paddle Newlands Beck in the afternoon. Lots of water here too and very fast.
Sunday we made an early start and went for Trout Beck, the one that's a trib of the Greta. A committing grade 4 says the guide book.Lots of trees in the river and with the level rising four hours later I walked away from the last half mile and left everyone else to finish.
Altogether a weekend I will never forget.

A big thankyou to Paul for running this weekend, to Ada for driving and Tim for having his prayers for rain heard.

Dear All

Thanks for a memorable trip. Thought I'd post a few quotes

'....its alright the next 50m are clear.....'

'...There's a tree down, followed by a strainer then there's a serious strainer otherwise okay...'

QUESTION - 'Whats round the corner...? ANSWER '...Water...'

I would like to confirm that the answer was in fact quite correct.

Thanks again see you soon

Paul
