Barle trip Oct 14/15/16th 2016

Post by Martin Boardman »

This trip is suitable for beginners with some moving water experience.

If you want to find out what is involved, or need some advice, please speak to Di Wade, Andy Garlick, Paul Winslow, Adrian Boyce or Mark Preddy.

The cost is £35 pp and includes bunkhouse accommodation Friday and Saturday nights, breakfast both mornings, and a Saturday evening meal pasta dish. Non-paddling parents are welcome too.

If we have very little rain we normally surf at Woolacombe beach on the Saturday, if we have heavy rain and high river levels, beginners may be asked not to paddle for safety reasons.

This is a good social event in lovely Countryside. Everyone is expected to muck in with the washing up etc. Please pay Andy Garlick, Di Wade or Paul Winslow.

Murray

Most of the details are found on their website here : http://www.yha.org.uk/hostel/northcombe-camping-barns

The best route down varies according to taste (M4/M5/A361 , or M3/A303/A358/M5/A361 ) but basically pick your own route down to Tiverton and then at the first roundabout turn north following the A396 road to Dulverton which runs alongside the River Exe for most of the route. At Exbridge you fork left, cross the river Exe and continue to Dulverton.

Cross the river into Dulverton, and continue up the road until you get to a very narrow lane dead ahead sandwiched between a white building and its neighbour. This lane is both steep and quite bumpy and definitely single track. Continue until you reach the top and then turn left (and I think left again?) along another rough track which leads downhill into the site. I think the SatNav code works reasonably well TA22 9SH

Good luck

Andy
