2 Star Assessment : Saturday 1st October, Sunday 2nd or Saturday 8th?

Post by andy g »

Guys

On Saturday 20th August I will be running a one-day 2 Star assessment at Danson Lake. Depending upon numbers I may be able to schedule it after polo training.

This will be suitable for those paddlers who already have the required level of skills, but have not actually been assessed at this level. 2 Star really is an intermediate level under the British Canoeing guidelines so the performance should reflect this.

The syllabus can be found here: https://f58619eed67ecf47f9c5-69635130c4 ... llabus.pdf

This is not going to be a teaching session as such. I will demonstrate each of the each "dry" skills before assessing everybody individually. We will then paddle another craft (probably an open) and the final session will be the wet skills.

I am assuming that most will wish to do this in a kayak, but other options are available (e.g.: Open boats) if you wish to chose another craft please let me know in advance.

Guys

I have interest from Will Green and Gabe Boardman , but as yet no other takers.

Does anyone else want to try to get 2 Star this Saturday?

Andy, we have had confirmation that the rowing club have booked exclusive lake access for this Saturday. We will need to consider rescheduling this assessment. Sorry.

Thanks Martin,

I would really like to get at least 4 candidates, so perhaps we should delay for a couple of weeks?

Andy,
had a very successful FS&R day at Southmere.
I have suggested to those who took part to talk to you about doing their 2*.
Hopefully there will be enough to make the course viable.

In that case I'll name names!
Julia, Polly, Murray, Sandrine, Tim C, Will G.
Where are you!

You've done the difficult and technical bits, the rest of 2* is easy.

I was told there were some polo players interested that could not make the original date because of tournament commitments. Perhaps Mark / Helen could canvass the polo contingent and confirm?

If a date is set with no polo clash, and some of the newly qualified FSRT paddlers are approached, I think we should be able to get an assessment off of the ground.

I'm still up for doing the 2 star, it's all dependant on the dates :)
