Medway River Trips in November and December

Post by andy g »

Guys

I am trying to organise trips to give paddlers a better grounding in moving water skills whilst having a good time on the river.
The River Medway has several canoe chutes and pools that we can use to gain practice on moving water, (but all can be portaged if you don't want to run them) and the river provides a nice scenic trip through Kent countryside.

Depending upon numbers and preferences we can choose different sections.
The longest trip is Tunbridge to Yalding, followed by Yalding to Allington, but other much shorter trips are also well worthwhile e.g: Yalding to Sluice Gate and back, Hartlake to Yalding and others.

The dates I am proposing are Sunday 8th November or Sunday 22nd November, and Sunday 13th December.

These trips are suitable for almost all paddlers, you only need to be able to paddle in a straight line, and to have the endurance to keep going.

Let me know if you are interested.

Andy

Hi Andy,
Thanks for taking the time to organise these trips.
I am interested but not available on the 8th November. The other 2 dates are fine. Having done only one trip on the Medway, I have no preferences on the sections as long as I can portage if I'm not feeling confident enough for the chutes!

I'm coming along, both dates. Yalding to Allington would be a nice change, haven't done that one yet.

Quite like this idea of Tim s to share a kayak and a canoe seat - not both at once of course. I can do 22nd Nov.

Hi Andy, regarding the trip on the 22nd November I would suggest a Tonbridge to Yalding paddle which gives lots of opportunities for fun at the canoe shoots. And the option of tired paddlers getting out at sluice weir on the way down. Burgers and hotdogs at the get out would finish the day lovely at Yalding.
