Oare to Faversham via Isle of Harty Sunday 2nd August 2015.

Post by Tharlow »

I am organising trip from Oare across The Swale to Harty then down Faversham Creek.

Timetable.
Meet at boathouse at 8.30, load boats and leave by 9.00.
Arrive at Oare car park, Church Road, Oare ME13 0QA (free but NO toilets) at 10.15
Launch at 11.00.
Paddle across The Swale to Harty and paddle against the tide for a mile or so hopefully to spot some seals.
We then cross back over The Swale to Horse Sands to look for seals and wildlife, then into Faversham Creek and paddle up to the Town Quay for a packed lunch.
HW is at 14.48.
We leave soon after and return to Oare by 16.00
I hope to return to the boathouse by 17.30.
A chart of The Swale is at:-

and a chart of Faversham Creek is at:-
http://www.visitmyharbour.com/harbours/ ... chart-2012
and zoom in on both.

This 10 mile trip involves paddling across the tide and for a short time against it and paddlers should be of a 2* standard.

This is an inter-club trip with our friends from Bewl Water and Maidstone Canoe Clubs.
If you would like more information please contact me here or at the boathouse on the next two Saturday mornings.

Details of previous trips are at:-

The day started with Kathleen phoning to say she had strained a muscle and was unable to come..
However rather than sit at home Kathleen decide to walk the route instead.
Unfortunately the right half of photos are not shown.

On arrival at Oare we met up with perfect weather and several members from Maidstone and Bewl Water CCs.
We soon launched and crossed The Swale and headed into the tide to look for the elusive seals.

Having not seen as much as one head we decided to cross back and look along Horse Sands and there we found a small herd.
As we slowly approached they wiggled into the water and occasionally surfaced to have a look at us.

Eventually the seals became bored looking at us and disappeared and we entered Faversham Creek.
The creek starts off being quite rural but towards the end many boats and in particular sailing barges are being restored.

Stopped at The Town Lock for lunch, met with Kathleen and waited for the tide to turn.

We then retraced our route back up the creek (with paddles...)

...were Julia got talking to a few locals.....

Finally the group made its way to The Swale and back to Oare.

Tired but all agreed, we must do this again!
