Cuckmere Haven Trip

Post by Tharlow »

We are joining Bewl Water Canoe Club this Saturday for a trip on the Cuckmere and along the coast over looked by The Seven Sisters.
Meet at the boathouse at 7.30 to load boats.
Leave at 8.00.
Meet Bewl Water CC in the car park in Exceat opposite the Visitors' Centre on the A259 at 10.00
Launch at 10.30.
Paddle along the Cuckmere to the coast then follow the shoreline.
Lunch at 12.30.
Return to car park by 15.30.
Back at boathouse at 18.00.

Paddlers should be of a 2* standard.
Any questions please contact Kathryn on 01322524958 or me via the forum.

The weather wasn't with us on this trip.
A sudden drop in temperature with a strong viable wind meant the cosy touring paddle of recent years become something quite different.
And a new challenge.
Unfortunately the right half of photos are not shown.
To view the complete picture, right click on picture and click on 'Open image in new tab', then click on picture for bigger size.
Then click on View Raw Image in left side bottom corner.

Getting onto the canalised part of the Cuckmere is always a challenge...

and here also

Once we reached the shore, we were surprised not just by the magnificent chalk cliffs...

but the choppy tide.

Something we haven't experienced before.

Surprisingly few capsizes as we soon learnt the art of surfing.
Quite an exhilarating but tiring day and thanks to Clive and Simon at Bewl Water Canoe Club for organising and inviting Meridian on this trip.
