SUMMARY:March 2020 Pool Based Beginners Kayaking Course.
DESCRIPTION:Meridian Canoe Club is pleased to be offering a new members course which includes a year club membership and access to five pool sessions during the course. Please note whilst this course is open to all\, under 16’s have to be accompanied by an adult who can remain on the poolside during the sessions any Under 10’s accompanying adult should be also enrolled on the course. \nThe course is based at Crook log pool with optional lake sessions available to supplement the pool learning\, these optional sessions will cost an extra £2 per session. The course also includes a river trip which will be on the 5th of April\, so course participants are expected to keep paddling after the course if they are going to get the most enjoyment out of the trip. \n11/03/2019 Forward paddling and sweep strokes 20:15 – 21:15 \n14/03/2020 Optional Lake session 10:30 – 12:00 \n18/03/2020 Capsize drill 20:15 – 21:15 \n21/03/2020 Optional Lake session 10:30 – 12:00 \n25/03/2020 Reverse paddling and revision of forward paddling and sweep strokes 20:15 – 21:15 \n28/03/2020 Optional Lake session 10:30 – 12:00 \n01/04/2020 Rescue Session 20:15 – 21:15 \n04/04/2020 Optional Lake session 10:30 – 12:00 \n08/04/2020 Moving Sideways and basic recovery strokes \nFor the pool sessions you need to bring You’ll need to bring whatever you would normally wear when swimming at the pool and many people choose to add a Tshirt that they don’t mind getting wet. You are very likely to get wet so don’t forget a towel and a change of clothes and you’re welcome to use the shower facilities after your session. \nFor the optional lake sessions\, you need to bring to bring a change of clothes in case you do fall in\, and a towel and you’re welcome to use the shower facilities after your session. Please wear clothing suitable for sporting activity\, jeans will restrict movement and be uncomfortable in the boat. DESCRIPTION:We are now running regular Come and Try sessions at Crooklog pool on Wednesday evenings 2015 -2115! \nThese are an opportunity to see the facilities we have\, meet members of the club and of course\, try paddling. \nOn arrival at the club you’ll be registered and given a safety briefing\, usually performed by one of the club’s experienced coaches. Any participants who are not water confident or unable to swim are welcome but should email enquiries@meridiancanoeclub.com before booking a session. \nNext you’ll be allocated a set of paddles\, then shown the kayak you’ll be using and given a brief overview of how it works. The kayak will then be set up to fit you to ensure you’re comfortable. \nYou’ll then be taken to the water and helped into the kayak and a member of the club will be assigned to give you supervision on the water\, Please note this is not an hour of dedicated instruction but we will ensure that you are safe and having fun. \nThe kayaks we use at these sessions are designed for white water paddling so they are extra safe in the pool. \nYou’ll need to bring whatever you would normally wear when swimming at the pool and many people choose to add a Tshirt that they don’t mind getting wet. DESCRIPTION:The first touring trip of 2020 and an introduction to paddling in (not too) cold weather\, hence a short trip approx 3 miles.\n\nMeet at boathouse at 10:00.\nLoad boats and leave by 10:30\nMeet at Hampstead Lane\, Yalding\, ME18 6HG at 11:15\nLaunch by 11:30.\nHead towards Hampstead Lock\, portage at the lock around the marina right into the Medway then left in to the Beult and paddle as far as we can go or until people are tired approx 13:00.\nTurn around and return to Hampstead Lane by 14:15\nRetire to Teaport Island Café for restorative warm drink at 15:00 (closes at 16:00)\nBack to boathouse by 17:00.\n\nWe will not be stopping for lunch\, so please bring a snack/sandwich/energy bar etc and drink you can consume before the trip and/or in the boat.\nIf you do not want to go to the café\, it might be wise to being a flask and snack instead as you will be hungry afterwards!\nThe nearest toilet is at the café (hopefully will be open) a good 10 minute walk from where we launch and recover so be prepared.\n\nPlease note\, this trip is weather dependant.\nIf there is snow and/or ice making driving difficult\, is very cold or there is flooding the trip will be postponed to a later date.\n\nIf you are interested please let me (Tim Harlow) know\, I shan’t be at the boathouse for the next two Saturdays but will be on the Saturday before the trip.\nTransport might be an issue\, please let me know if you have a car with roof bars and straps.\n\nRiver Beult\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oz5kc7jfQkA\n\nTeapot Island Café\nhttp://www.teapotisland.co.uk/
