Medway Trip Sun Aug 9th

Post by andy g »

Club members are welcome to join a trip to the Medway this Sunday.
We are planning to get on the water at Yalding at about 11.30 , paddle up to Sluice Gate Weir , for a snack lunch, a chance to use the canoe shoot, and return to Yalding for 15.30 , where we plan a barbeque meal.
With many boats already being allocated for the Harefield slalom this weeknd it is important that you let me know if you do wish to come and need a club boat and kit. We are meeting at the boathouse at 10.00 to get kitted up.
It is the climax of the Adult Beginners Course and we will be assessing them for their 1 Star award during the trip, but there will be other club paddlers around to make the trip enjoyable and worthwhile.
Please ring me and let me know if you are planning to come, esp if you need a boat.
Regards
Andy

Thanks to those paddlers who gave their Sunday to help on this River Medway trip. Nigel , Dave Boorman, Paul French came along as well as Paul Winslow and Teresa and the boys , plus Alison , which all together gave us a quite a large party on the river.
The weather was kind and we managed to get through the 1* assessment OK , and then had the added bonus of being able to run the canoe shoot at Sluice Gate weir. This proved so popular that most did a second run down, with varied yelps of delight cutting the air.
The barbeque meal at the end set the seal on a perfect day.
Regards
Andy

Hope everyone enjoyed the Medway paddle. Sorry the weather was not in line with the usual canoeing weather (Ie. No snow, rain, gale force winds, ice etc.) But at least it was a change to have a nice warm paddle in the sun!
My apologies for not bringing along some membership forms for those that wanted, (for some inexplicable reason!), to join. There are forms at the boathouse and pools or if you e-mail me at membership@meridiancanoeclub.com I will-mail you a copy. Remember you do not pay the joining fee if you paid to come on the course.
Apologies for elbowing Paul French off the motor boats surf wave (Twice!)
Apologies for ignoring Andy’s instruction (more than twice)
Apologies for Alison’s swim (Well not really, she should have abided by the clubs long standing understanding that you NEVER follows Nigel’s instructions, advice, line down river, etc.)
Apologies to Nathan for making him sprint to catch everyone up (Again not really – serves him right for sinking his boat and taking so long to empty it!)
Hope you all had a nice day
