London International 30-31st August 2008

Postby Brian » Mon Aug 25, 2008 8:06 am

Hi
The London International Canoe polo Tournament is upon us again and will be taking place next weekend at Danson Park. This is a club event and we would like to ask all members of the club if they can spare a couple of hours over the weekend to come along and help at this event.
If you are new to the club its a great way of getting to know people and make friends. Club members and their friends and family are invited to camp at the park and to attend a BBQ on saturday night at a cost of £7 which includes 4 pieces of meat, salads and a pudding. You are guarenteed not to walk away hungry. There is a licensed bar in the park where drinks are available at very reasonable prices.

Of course there is a catch, we do need your help.

We will need help from 9am on Friday morning through to Sunday evening. We need people to help prepare and serve food and drinks. Cooking and preparation can be done in your home if this is easier for you. We start breakfasts from about 7am and continue serving food all day. As one meal ends another begins.

If any members have a van that can be used it would be appreciated as we are always waiting for a van to become free on the friday or sunday evening when we are setting up and packing down.

We need help on the friday to erect marquees and gazeebos and rope off camping areas etc. If you are unable to lift and do heavy work then perhaps you could make drinks or prepare food for the helpers. There are jobs for everyone.

Many of you have connections with local scout groups and we do have the support of a group in Wilmington which kindly help us each year. We are still deperately short of tables / chairs and benches for the evening BBQ. If your group can lend us some in exchange for a small donation or a free evening of canoeing then that would be great.

Any time that you are able to give and any equipment that you have that you could lend to us that you feel would be of use would be every much appreciated. No help will be turned away.

If you are able to help in anyway please let Brian or Mark or Jane know. Otherwise please turn up on the day and make yourself known to us and we will have plenty of jobs to keep you occupied.

Hope to see you there

Just wanted to say a big thankyou to all those who helped out before, during and after the event this year.
Without your help London International would not be able to take place.
We had fantastic weather and lots of positive feedback from the teams.
Another sucessful year and despite being hard work, a very enjoyable weekend for players and worker alike.
