The Race has three distances: 6.4 miles for racing boats; 3.4 miles for other boats or less experienced paddlers and 1.2 miles for beginners. The 1.2 mile race starts and finishes below the bridge at Coppermill Lock, opposite the Coy Carp and has no portages. Location on Google Maps, for Sat Nav users the post code is: UB9 6HZ and is with easy access from the M25 (J17). – Same location as the Harefield Slalom.

The other two races start and finish above the mill stream adding a bit of excitement to the more experienced paddlers and the spectators!

Paddlers new to the series can either estimate their time or start at the beginning of the session.

Entries cost just £2.00 per person, new paddlers always welcome, no need to pre-enter just turn up at the Coy Carp and enter on the day.

Harefield Winter Series Details

The Winter races will run on the second Sunday of each month, beginning at Noon.

We will be running the 3.5 mile and the 6.4 mile races with the staggered start, but it is elapsed time that counts

Paddlers are reminded that there will always be the chance to warm up and enjoy the hospitality of the Coy Carp after the race. This establishment is very supportive, please respect their hospitality and please park at the farthest end of the car park to enable their customers the closer spaces.

You can use any kayak or canoe to take part in this event.

(But long kayaks, ie K1 or K2’s, go through the water faster and with less effort than shorter kayaks).

 

You are paddling along the Grand Union Canal and it is sheltered from the wind.

A path runs along side the length of the canal.
